Research Librarian Harris Beach PLLC

Harris Beach PLLC, a general practice law firm based in Rochester, NY, seeks a Research Librarian to conduct legal, business and other non-legal research on behalf of legal staff and clients. This position is also responsible for developing and maintaining the Library’s technology applications. This position reports to the Director of Libraries and Research Services. 

Responsibilities:
  • Performs comprehensive, sophisticated legal, business and other non-legal research and preliminary analysis in an innovative and timely manner for attorneys, clients and staff
  • Independently analyzes and synthesizes information from diverse sources to solve problems creatively
  • Manages current awareness advisory services for attorneys, clients and non-legal staff
  • Conducts on-site research at various area libraries as necessary
  • Provides educational instruction and support in legal research and information literacy
  • Visits practice offices regularly to provide education instruction and promote efficient use of research tools
  • Advises Director of trends in library and law firm emerging technologies; manages any subsequent implementations
  • Acts as liaison to IT department for upgrading, installation and trouble shooting of equipment, software and other applications
  • Reviews professional publications, establishes personal networks, and participates in professional associations
Qualifications: 
  • MLS or equivalent advanced degree required
  • Minimum 5 years experience in law library environment
  • Demonstrated aptitude for research and analysis
  • Well developed research skills
  • Experience with a wide variety of electronic resources such as the Internet, Lexis, Westlaw, and other standard law library applications
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Sharepoint applications
