TENURE-TRACK FACULTY VACANCY
ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN
The F.
Franklin Moon Library at SUNY-ESF seeks a forward-thinking assistant librarian
to serve as the Library’s Interlibrary Loan and Collections Management
Specialist. This position is responsible for interlibrary loan, document
delivery, and acquisitions using a patron request driven model for collection
development. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the
Library Director and other Library staff to explore and implement the use of
emerging technologies for rapid fulfillment of patron information needs. This
position will also participate in reference rotations, provision of information
literacy instruction, departmental liaison program, and other library
activities as
assigned.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities required
for an Assistant Librarian, the following knowledge skills and abilities may
also be required:
·
Manage
all aspects of interlibrary loan, including OCLC ILLiad software, holdings
queues and other features.
·
Serve
as IDS Project contact, as well as primary information vendor contact.
·
Maintain
awareness of issues and advances in interlibrary loan, resource sharing, and
related library services.
·
Train
ILL staff and student assistants.
·
Manage
provision of Document Delivery Services.
·
Manage
acquisitions of all electronic subscriptions, print resources, and other
materials.
·
Management
of gifts and donations of materials to the library.
·
Interact
with various vendors and suppliers of information resources.
·
Utilize
numerous complex research resources such as online catalogs and databases,
finding aids, reference sources, technical manuals, etc. to perform job
responsibilities.
·
Explore,
Implement, and troubleshoot patron-initiated purchasing workflows.
·
Track,
compile, analyze, and interpret financial and non-financial statistics.
·
Participate
in library-wide planning and serve on campus-wide committees and task forces.
·
Be
active professionally and contribute to developments in the field.
Required Qualifications:
·
MLS/MLIS
degree from an ALA-accredited Library Science program and library or related
work experience.
·
Strong
Analytical and budget management skills.
·
Ability
to successfully initiate, track, and manage projects.
·
Excellent
interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with faculty, students,
vendors and academic administrators.
·
Excellent
oral and written communication skills.
·
Ability
to use independent judgment, effective organizational and time management
skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
·
A
second Masters degree in a STEM subject area.
·
Experience
with ILLiad, OCLC, integrated library management systems, MS Office suite and
current interlibrary loan standards and practices.
·
Experience
with developing academic research collections.
·
Ability
to work across organizational boundaries.
·
General
knowledge of discovery and delivery tools including ALEPH, Encore, ILLiad,
bibliographic records and call numbering systems.
·
Prior
academic library experience, including the delivery of information literacy
instruction.
·
Experience
providing reference/instructional services in an academic library setting,
teaching experience, or knowledge of instructional methods.
·
Experience
with LibGuides and RefWorks or similar tools
·
Excellent
customer service skills.

Cornell
University is located in scenic Ithaca on a hill above
Cayuga Lake in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. The town and

Position:
Cornell Law library seeks an energetic and creative librarian for a new
Outreach and Scholarly Services Librarian position. Under the supervision of
the Assistant Director for Research and Instruction, the Outreach and Scholarly
Services Librarian is responsible for building productive relationships with
faculty and students by developing and implementing the outreach activities of
the Law Library.
Duties
include:
·
Develop, coordinate, and implement
new and innovative library programs and services for faculty, students, and
other groups in the law school and university community.
·
Facilitate the growth of the library’s
scholarly services, which include an active faculty liaison component and a
faculty scholarship repository.
·
Work collaboratively with library staff
to develop and coordinate library marketing and outreach efforts such as open
houses, orientation and alumni events, exhibits, brochures, reports, other
print-based and web based social media.
·
Develop and organize library workshops
and sessions in real and virtual environments.
·
Teach in the first year lawyering course
and various research courses for upper level credit.
Strong
communication and interpersonal skills are required, as well as a demonstrated
ability to work effectively in a collegial environment.
The
Outreach and Scholarly Services Librarian participates in library planning
committees and task forces and engages in campus, regional, and national
professional organizations and collaborative activities, and is expected to be
professionally active.
Salary
is competitive. Position is available July 1, 2013; however, the start date is

Requirements:
J.D. from ABA accredited school and M.L.I.S. or equivalent graduate degree from
an ALA-accredited program; strong service orientation; excellent written and

customer service and delivery of exemplary library reference and research
services.
Preferred:
A minimum of two years professional academic law library or related experience;
demonstrated experience coordinating and managing projects; teaching
experience; knowledge of and interest in new and emerging technologies;
demonstrated experience with assessment methodologies and conducting analysis.
