Job opportunity: Resource and Research Specialist (Goldberg Segalla, Buffalo)

Job Description:
  • Managing the operations of the law library, including monitoring book purchases and allocating, organizing, and disseminating legal resources. 
  • Conducting in-depth research in a wide range of areas including practice-specific areas of law, business intelligence, public records, legislative history, medical, and news/media.
  • Training lawyers, paralegals, legal assistants, and others on the use of Internet-based legal research programs such as Lexis Advance, CourtLink, Wolters Kluwer Cheetah platform and emerging electronic resources such as Google Scholar, electronic journals, on-line court dockets and legislative materials. 
  • Conducting periodic reviews of new and existing electronic resources with an eye toward improved service and research efficiencies. 
  • Coordinating vendor relationships and regular training programs as well as reviewing usage, and evaluating resource needs. 
  • Managing firm subscriptions. 
  • Promoting library services and resources to all 19 offices. 
  • Cataloging library resources and maintaining firm ILS powered by EOS.Web Legal.
Requirements/Skills:
Ideal candidate should be motivated with the goal of becoming a long term asset within the organization.
  • MLS or MLIS from an accredited library school preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an academic or law library. 
  • Extensive experience with various technical services and software platforms is highly preferred. 
  • Ability to handle pressure, interruptions, and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities and deadlines. 
  • Ability to perform legal research, in-depth knowledge of legal terminology and principles
  • Exceptional organization, writing, and communication skills. 
  • Interact professionally with clients, attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, all other staff, and other representatives outside of the firm.

Albany Law School seeks applicants for the position of Access Services Librarian in its Schaffer Law Library.

The Access Services Librarian supervises the library's circulation, interlibrary loan, reserves, legal supplementation, and collection maintenance. Hires, trains, and supervises library personnel and work-study students in these areas. Supervises the implementation and enforcement of library access and use policies and procedures. Participates on the reference librarian team, schedules reference desk coverage, and coordinates faculty research requests. Manages access to the library's electronic resources and troubleshoots technical issues. Provides library instruction and participates in the law library management. The Access Services Librarian reports to the Director of the Library.

Qualifications include: Accredited MLS degree or equivalent and accredited Juris Doctor degree with at least 1-2 years of supervisory experience and at least 1-2 years of legal reference experience. Teaching experience preferred. Ability to demonstrate a strong service ethic in an academic library setting. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment using excellent communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated flexibility to embrace and adapt to change.

Congress.gov Spring Cleaning: Expanded Quick Search

It really works!


Over the last several months, we have added a variety of enhancements to Congress.gov.  It began with the Communications in October, the Congressional Record Index in December, and the XML Bulk Data via GPO in February.  Today’s update focuses on expanding Quick Search on Congress.gov.
When the Quick Search on Congress.gov first launched in December 2015, the initial focus was on legislation.  With this release, there is now a Quick Search for:

Description: 
Reporting to the Director of Libraries and Research Services, the Research Analyst will conduct legal, business and other non-legal research on behalf of legal staff and clients. This position will also support the development and maintenance of the Library’s technology applications.

Responsibilities: 
  • Performs comprehensive, sophisticated legal, business and other non-legal research and preliminary analysis in an innovative and timely manner for attorneys, clients and staff

Position announcement: Reference Librarian (Syracuse)

Candidate will be responsible for providing legal and non-legal reference assistance to attorneys and staff.
