Position announcement: Research Librarian (Pittsford, NY)

Harris Beach PLLC has is seeking a Research Librarian, location: Pittsford, NY.

Description: 
Reporting to the Director of Libraries and Research Services, the Research Analyst will conduct legal, business and other non-legal research on behalf of legal staff and clients. This position will also support the development and maintenance of the Library’s technology applications.

Responsibilities: 
  • Performs comprehensive, sophisticated legal, business and other non-legal research and preliminary analysis in an innovative and timely manner for attorneys, clients and staff 
  • Independently analyzes and synthesizes information from diverse sources to solve problems creatively 
  • Conducts on-site research at various area libraries as necessary 
  • Provides educational instruction and support in legal research and information literacy 
  • Visits practice offices regularly to provide education instruction and promote efficient use of research tools 
Qualifications: 
  • MLS or equivalent advanced degree required 
  • Significant legal research experience required 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in library environment preferred 
  • Demonstrated aptitude for research and analysis 
  • Well developed research skills 
  • Experience with a wide variety of electronic resources such as the Internet, Westlaw, and other standard law library applications 
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and SharePoint applications 
  • Military experience a plus

Position announcement: Reference Librarian (Syracuse)

Barclay Damon, LLP, a full service, 275 lawyer firm with eleven offices throughout New York State and the Northeast, has an immediate opening for a full-time Reference Librarian in the Syracuse office.

Candidate will be responsible for providing legal and non-legal reference assistance to attorneys and staff. Duties include providing current awareness services through relevant news dissemination, locating and providing legislative history research, training attorneys and staff on the use of all legal resources and exploring/evaluating new resources for possible acquisition. Outstanding oral and written communication skills a must. Applicants must have the ability to work independently as well as in a team, prioritize assignments and work in a deadline oriented environment . MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited school is required. Must be proficient in use of online legal and non-legal resources to include Lexis, LA, Checkpoint and government website while maintaining accuracy.
