Winter Wonderlands

Here in Western New York winter has fully arrived, despite any protestation the calendar may make.  It's cold.  It's snowy.  But you know you're a real Western New Yorker when your first response to cold and snow is, "Oh, good -- the lakes will freeze!"  It's never the heat but the humidity, nor never the snow but the Lake Effect.

Does that wisdom hold true throughout the ALLUNY region? How would you fill in these blanks?
